east lake county garden news
there's human intervention in my backyard as well as on campus so i came home from work and weeded and watered for a while...things are good here on the next to last street in lake county...the hopi blue maize is topping out at nearly two feet two thirds of the way through june and is on schedule for the squirrels...the huaca corota potato in the pot is a late starter and may be racing the frost in october to get its tubers set....from left to right along the south fence are red nordlnds two hills each of cucumbers and squash in the center and yukon gold potatoes along the right...the squash as shifted gears and will be trailing along the ground if i don't put up some sort of trellis soon...the fourth photo is of a northern tepehuan teosinte plant that is nearly as tall as the hopi blue and a good candidate for developing, if not maturing, seed ears...and the bottom photo is of some turnips at what is nearly the end of their season...lots of salad ingredients in the yard...and the jerusalem artichokes ( oddly not pictured ) are growing relentlessly...the feral rosebush is in for some competition since the lemon balm gave up the fight for bed space...more stuff as it arises.
