yes i am growing grass

while i was on campus i naturally went to look in on the pgp...specifically to see how the wheat grass from kansas was doing...the top photo is of one of the seed heads and you can see by the stand in the second photo that they are fine...while i was nosing around i noticed that the forage variety of intermediate wheat grass is going to seed as well (third photo )...you can see the resemblance but ( although the photos do not provide that good a comparison ) the wheat grass from the land institute has larger seeds than the forage variety i planted in 2010...next trip i will try to get a scale in there to provide an objective comparison...the wheat grass from kansas is producing multiple terminal spears on each plant...from ten to thirty at the moment...and it will be interesting to see how many are produced before they stop...the eastern gamagrass ( fourth photo ) still has produced only one terminal spear on three plants...a stark contrast to last season's reproductive explosion...i can see the thickening stems of more seed heads developing and it is early yet...they may catch up to last year yet...the bottom photo is of the pgp at about five this evening...teosinte, maize, asparagus, yams, wheat grass, gamagrass all doing well with the odd volunteer potato (3) thrown in.
